I am heading to the pharmacy today to pick up a prescription not covered by insurance. Unfortunately is is really expensive. There are a few ways I offset the cost at the pharmacy, but I'd love to hear your ideas too!
- First I called around to see who had the best price. I found prices to be within a few dollars, so I stuck with CVS where I could get a better deal in the end.
- I'll be using the Pharmacy Savings Coupon. I hope to save at least $20-$50 with this, but honestly would be happy to save any amount.
- I checked online for drug specific coupons. You can find a list HERE. I was able to find one, however it cannot be combined with any other coupon, so I will take the better of the two deals.
- I was hoping to find a $25 gift card coupon for a new prescription, however I didn't. I do have a $10 Gift Card coupon from Kmart, which my CVS will honor as a competitor's coupon.

9 times out of 10, Costco is the hands-down winner for my pharmacy needs! Plus, you don't have to be a member to use the pharmacy (or the optical or hearing aid center). Plus you can partake in all the yummy samples!! =)
but i do admit that when i really need an $25 gc to rite aid or the like, i have them price match costco!!
Even if you do have insurance and can mail in for a 90 day supply it is worth checking with some pharmacy's to find out which is most cost effective. Example: If I order my blood presure meds(90 days) from Medco I pay $35.00 for generic. My local owner-operated pharmacy was able to sell it for $9.00 for 90 days. Our local pharmacy is cheaper for about half of our meds.
We do all our regular prescriptions though the mail with Prime Therapeutics. I think we save quite a bit that way.
I love the gift card promotions, too. They often end up being money makers! Recently I paid $15 for an antibiotic at CVS and received a $25 gift card. I save all those coupons, even if I don't think I'll be filling any prescriptions in the near future. You never know when you'll need one!
